I started Emiah back in 2014 as a creative outlet… and an expensive hobby!

I was in university and wanted something to focus my passions into; so I poured my all into making elegant and romantic, yet opulent creations.

It has been a bumpy road to get here, but I’m grateful that I persevered because over the last few years Emiah has slowly grown into my own small business that ignites my artistic passions.

Everything I make is full of love, care and consideration. It is my aim to not only provide a garment for my clients, but an everlasting memory attached to each bespoke piece to make them look and feel absolutely beautiful.

Why did I call it Emiah? This is the fun part! It’s actually a combination of letters from my childhood nickname (little penguin) and initials! ‘Eudyptula minor’ is the scientific name for the smallest breed of Little Blue Fairy Penguin, so its meaning is close to my heart 🩵

It meant so much to me that I could be there on Cassie’s special day, as a guest and to help her get ready.

These are my Top Nine, Top Nines!

It can be so easy to think I’m not moving forward, but looking back every now and then helps me see how far I have come!

I have met so many amazing people on my journey and made so many beautiful things, so I cant wait to discover the rest of my story…

This year has been one of growth…

I started out this year with ideas of which directions I could go in… but life had other plans…

Instead I spent most of my time rebuilding the foundations of my business and exploring options I never would have imagined!

One thing that I take away from this years top 9 is that I need to nurture my craft more, pick up personal projects again with over the top embellishments to help keep my passion alive and inspire my clients and audience as those seem to be the most popular posts!

With ‘The Unique Boutique’ releasing this year and my taking part in more public speaking, judging, writing and advocacy rolls, I have discovered that I really enjoy doing in front of camera/in person events, so decided to share all of that, plus anything else I love doing, on a separate account for those that are interested!

Last year I took part in a wonderful filming project that I can now share!

The Unique Boutique airs on @channel4 from Monday July 24th, 10pm.

I will be in three of the four episodes as one of the makers helping to make and adapt clothing for a bunch of amazing people who struggled to find what they needed from their clothing.

As soon as I heard the premise of this series, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. As a disabled woman myself, I often have to alter my own clothing to better suit my needs. It is why I am so passionate about bespoke wear as I want to make clothing for you, for your body and your needs no matter what that is.

It was an amazing experience to film, work with and meet so many talented and vibrant people, so I can’t wait to see the results!

Glistening metallic lace and smooth platinum silk… I knew it would be perfect for a playsuit, But which one?

These designs have been on my UFO pile for a long time, so hopefully I can carve out some time for personal projects again In the next few months.

Delicate Details…

For bespoke pieces I really like to work with you to create something truly special, and this belt was such a dream to make.

After being given the theme of water from my client, I used the memories tied to that concept to create a unique textural pattern with the lace. It was a subtle personal touch, but going that extra step turned this into a truly cherished heirloom piece.

I was also so glad my client shared my love for encrusted beads as adding that maximalist touch to this otherwise delicate piece added so much dimension.

Placing lace…

This is when the tactile creating process starts!

I find the motion of manipulating embellishments so much fun as I can play with balance, layering and textures to accentuate the body and make you look like a living work of art.

I use my sketches as a guide, however I also like to leave room for experimentation as every garment is unique and I find that translating something from 2D to 3D is an evolving process.

On the inside…

I love seeing the insides of my creations when they don’t have linings. Its like a getting a peek behind the curtain of the work that goes into hand stitching lace and beads for an invisible look.

This is my own unique pathway, my individual thread route, my fingerprint left on the piece which I find so special!

On the inside…

I love seeing the insides of my creations when they don’t have linings. Its like a getting a peek behind the curtain of the work that goes into hand stitching lace and beads for an invisible look.

This is my own unique pathway, my individual thread route, my fingerprint left on the piece which I find so special!

Inspired by a beautiful lake…

This lovely bridal belt was designed with a wonderful client around the theme of water.

With freshwater pearls and crackle beads encrusting the edges like sea foam washed up onto the shore, hand painted lace rippling across the surface in waves and tones of soft blue, periwinkle and hints of turquoise to add touches of colour.

A belt is the perfect way to add a slice of beauty and texture to your ensemble!

Sampling colours…

Colour is so important to me as an artist, it can balance or disrupt a piece so easily.

Thats why I love sampling, laying the different materials out to see which colours and textures go together the best is a very tactile experience. Even pale colours like these can have so much depth and subtle differences!

It can take time to neatly sew for an invisible look, but the elegant finish it creates is just so worth it to me.

The repetitive motion can also be a mediative experience which I find soothing, when not having to wrangle over sharp curves or corners that is!

A lot of the little details of my kits are finally arriving!

These are the needle minders that will be included in every kit, along with my two most used needles, a sharps needle and a long beading needle.

I wanted to find a nice way for the needles to be displayed, but also to be useful and reusable, so developed this beauty!

I am a very methodical sewer so find it so satisfying having neat and even stitched lines, its one of the reasons I love corsetry as it shows off so many precise stitches for a sleek finish.
